Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to follow basic processes for the production of a textile item. The item may be a fabric or other textile product. It includes the use of a limited range of tools, equipment and techniques. Equipment may be commercial or craft level. Production processes may include one or more of spinning, weaving, felting, knitting or sewing. Materials are those which do not require complex processing or handling.This unit applies to individuals preparing for work in the textile, clothing and footwear industry, usually within a pre-employment training program. Work is carried out under supervision.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

1. Prepare for textile production
- 1.1 Identify design requirements from work instructions
- 1.2 Identify key steps in the production process based on design
- 1.3 Identify quality standards to be achieved
- 1.4 Identify and prepare suitable materials, tools and equipment to achieve production outcomes
- 1.5 Identify and follow work health and safety requirements
2. Follow textile production process
- 2.1 Operate textile production tools and equipment in accordance with safety requirements and their intended purpose
- 2.2 Handle materials appropriately based on their particular features and performance characteristics
- 2.3 Identify and correct minor product process faults
3. Complete textile production process
- 3.1 Safely remove product from equipment
- 3.2 Confirm item meets quality standards and seek guidance from supervisor to address any deficiencies
- 3.3 Clean work space and equipment and store tools and equipment in accordance with procedures
