Description
This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to manage Simulator Accreditation or In-Service Testing.It includes the determination of accreditation or in-service test requirements. It also includes the management of accreditation/test schedules, human resources as well as quality and legislative requirements. In the context of this unit, simulators are used to replicate land, air, sea and undersea systems to facilitate training and operations. Simulators may include desktop trainers, procedural trainers, virtual reality trainers and complex simulators. Accreditation or in-service testing may include formal accreditation/certification against a standard, initial acceptance testing and upgrade testing. This unit applies to those working in the simulator management field and was developed for people who manage maintenance, maintenance teams, simulator procurement and simulation projects.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to, particularly those relating to simulation standards and International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) standards.Those undertaking this unit would work independently, or as part of a team, with minimal supervision, while performing tasks, including maintenance management, in a limited range of contexts. They would use discretion and judgement and take responsibility for the quality of their outputs.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1 Access and interpret accreditation standards or testing requirements
  • 1.1 Identify and obtain relevant accreditation standards or test requirements
  • 1.2 Review to determine relevant accreditation standard or test requirements obtained for relevance and application to the simulator and organisation
  • 1.3 Document outcomes of the analysis, and determine recommendations, relevant accreditation standard or test requirements
2 Define test plan that ensures accreditation standards and or test requirements are achieved
  • 2.1 Document test requirements into test plan
  • 2.2 Consider time requirements, schedule and operating requirements and factor into test plan
  • 2.3 Determine human resources required for testing and record into test plan
  • 2.4 Determined simulator access, support, test equipment and facility requirements and record into test plan
  • 2.5 Confirm the test plan with team, appropriate agency, accreditor or stakeholder if applicable
3 Manage accreditation/in service testing
  • 3.1 Manage testing to ensure desired outcomes
  • 3.2 Update the test plan and schedule to deal with changing development conditions
  • 3.3 Report any unexpected test outcomes with organisation
  • 3.4 Ensure test reruns are conducted to address failed tests
4 Finalise testing
  • 4.1 Collate test results and ensure all testing requirements have been satisfied against organisational requirements
  • 4.2 Ensure all test results have been analysed against the required standards/requirements
  • 4.3 Conduct quality and compliance checks on all test results against organisational requirements
  • 4.4 Report any non-compliant tests to the appropriate agency or accreditor
  • 4.5 Produce test results to the appropriate agency, accreditor or stakeholder
