Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use digital technologies to produce patterns and complete pattern grading for garments. It involves the use of specialised electronic programs and computing equipment to digitise patterns and access existing pattern block libraries to create and grade pattern styles for a set size range.This unit applies to patternmakers who work in accordance with existing specifications using discretion, judgement and problem solving to maximise cost efficiency and quality.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

1. Determine pattern requirements
  • 1.1 Interpret measurements and pattern requirements from technical drawings and specifications
  • 1.2 Identify garment factors that need to be considered
  • 1.3 Prepare suitable programs and equipment in accordance with design specifications
2. Create patterns or blocks using digital techniques
  • 2.1 Identify and use digital library opportunities
  • 2.2 Use program features to modify or create patterns or blocks that meet design specifications
  • 2.3 Export patternandconfirmaccuracyagainstdesignandproductionspecifications
  • 2.4 Finalise,storeandprocesspatterntonextstagein accordance with job requirements
3. Grade patterns using digital techniques
  • 3.1 Confirm accuracy of patterns and pattern points in preparation for grading
  • 3.2 Grade pattern according to sizing system for identified target market
  • 3.3 Assess accuracy and completeness of pattern against specifications and make required adjustments
  • 3.4 Create final outputs and store in accordance with workplace procedures.
