Description
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to install prefabricated shopfitting units, including cabinets, counters, showcases, wall units and workstations. It covers receiving and checking the shopfitting units, checking and preparing the installation positions, and fixing the units in place, including assembling large units delivered to the work site in sections.The unit supports shopfitters responsible for installing internal shopfitting units. It applies to work completed on site concurrently with other shopfitting work that must be scheduled to accommodate both client requirements, where the shop is operational, and the requirements of other shopfitters and associated contractors.Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit of competency in some States. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Plan and prepare.
  • 1.1 Job requirements are obtained, confirmed and applied to planning.
  • 1.2 Work site is inspected, conditions and hazards are identified and reported as required, and health and safety requirements are confirmed with relevant personnel and applied to planning.
  • 1.3 Job safety analysis (JSA) or safe work method statement (SWMS) is reviewed and amended as required in consultation with relevant personnel.
  • 1.4 Tasks are sequenced and scheduled in consultation with team members, other site personnel and client as required, to ensure work is completed within given timeframe.
  • 1.5 Tools and equipmentare selected to carry out tasks according to job requirements, checked for serviceability, and faults are rectified or reported before starting work.
  • 1.6 Delivered internal shopfitting units are checked for completeness, unloaded carefully to protect finishes, and placed in well protected area on site.
  • 1.7 Tools, equipment and materials are prepared and placed ready for use.
2 Check position and prepare for installation.
  • 2.1 Datum is struck to check levels against supplied components, and plumb lines are marked at all connecting points and compared to original site measurements.
  • 2.2 Irregularities in plumb lines and dimensions are reported or rectified according to workplace procedures.
  • 2.3 Position is prepared, protrusions are removed, and structural elements required to support the shopfitting unit are installed, as required, according to job requirements.
3 Assemble and fix shopfitting unit.
  • 3.1 Components are assembled as required and shopfitting units are placed into position to commence installation.
  • 3.2 Drilled holes in shopfitting units are checked for installing fixings to connect to brickwork, timber and stone, as required.
  • 3.3 Measurements of completed assembly are checked against specifications and anomalies are reported and rectified, as required.
  • 3.4 Assembly is installed to level using appropriate equipment for levelling process, plumbed off narrowest point of width and packed to position, as required.
  • 3.5 Assembly is anchored at all connecting points according to specifications, and doors are fitted and checked as square where applicable.
  • 3.6 Sealants are applied according to specifications.
4 Clean up.
  • 4.1 Shopfitting unit is cleaned free from excess sealant, marks and masking tape.
  • 4.2 Waste is disposed of safely, aluminium off-cuts are stored for recycling, and unused material is stored according to workplace requirements.
  • 4.3 Tools and equipment are cleaned, maintained and stored according to workplace requirements.
