Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to solve electrical problems in remote community network apparatus in the electricity supply industry (ESI).It includes solving predictable electrical problems on network apparatus in a remote community. It also includes working safely, applying diagnoses and problem-solving procedures; and using voltage, current and resistance measuring devices to provide solutions derived from measurements and calculations to predictable circuit problemsThe application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence/registration to practice in the workplace.Other conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements which must be confirmed prior to commencing this unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare to solve electrical problems on remote community network apparatus
  • 1.1 Work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) workplace procedures for a given work area are obtained and confirmed
  • 1.2 Hazards are identified, WHS/OHS risks assessed and control measures identified in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.3 Nature of circuit(s) problem is obtained from documentation or from work supervisor to establish the scope of work to be undertaken
  • 1.4 Advice is sought from relevant personnel to ensure work is coordinated effectively with others
  • 1.5 Materials required for work are identified and obtained in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.6 Plant, equipment, tools, testing devices and personal protective equipment (PPE) required for work are identified, obtained and confirmed in working order
2 Solve electrical problems on network apparatus in a remote community
  • 2.1 WHS/OHS, sustainable energy and environmental principles and practices are monitored and followed to reduce incidents in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 2.2 Need to test or measure live electrical components is determined in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 2.3 Circuits are checked and isolated in accordance with job requirements and workplace procedures
  • 2.4 Established methods are used to solve electrical problems from measured and calculated values as they apply to remote community network apparatus
  • 2.5 Unplanned events in the solving of electrical problems in remote community network apparatus are responded to in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 2.6 Problems are solved without damage to apparatus, circuits, the surrounding environment or services in accordance with sustainable energy practices and workplace procedures
3 Complete work and document problem solving activities
  • 3.1 WHS/OHS and environmental incidents are reported in accordance with workplace procedures, as required
  • 3.2 Worksite is cleaned and made safe in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 3.3 Justification for solutions used to solve circuit problems is documented in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 3.4 Work completion is documented and appropriate personnel notified in accordance with workplace procedures
