This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to conduct control centre operations in Coal Mining (Open Cut).This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles. Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and Industry sectors. Relevant information must be sourced prior to application of the unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare to conduct control centre operations
  • 1.1. Access, interpret and apply compliance documentation and procedures for control centre operations, and ensure the work activity is compliant
  • 1.2. Identify shift requirements from the previous shift report and confirm shift operational plan with the supervisor
  • 1.3. Communicate with all relevant personnel before commencement of operations
  • 1.4 Conduct pre-start checks
2. Conduct control centre operations
  • 2.1. Start-up equipment and close down completely or partially in the sequence necessary to avoid damage/spillage
  • 2.2. Coordinate activities with others at the site prior to commencement of, and during the work activity
  • 2.3. Monitor and control plant processes to maintain shift plan and optimise coal stocks/quality and overburden removal
  • 2.4. Maintain control systems security requirements
  • 2.5. Monitor and act on warning devices
  • 2.6. Control the operation of equipment and the use of materials to minimise wastage
  • 2.7. Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency.
