Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to plan and manage stagecraft of performances. The unit applies to those who are responsible for generating and contributing ideas to the overall look, feel and sound of performances in collaboration with other creative and production personnel. They are also responsible for overseeing that stagecraft goes according to plan during performances. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan stagecraft of performances
- 1.1 Confirm performance brief and collaborate with required personnel on design of performance and order of repertoire
- 1.2 Generate, discuss and refine ideas with required personnel about aspects of stagecraft to engage audience
- 1.3 Agree on stagecraft aspects and confirm role of each person in performance
- 1.4 Select equipment and technology to be used for performance to support stagecraft
- 1.5 Anticipate problems that may arise during performance and plan contingencies accordingly
- 1.6 Organise for performances to be recorded for later evaluation if possible
- 1.7 Rehearse planned stagecraft aspects of performance according to performance brief
2. Lead group during performances
- 2.1 Collaborate with required personnel during performance set-up and confirm stagecraft aspects of performances will run in line with work health and safety (WHS) requirements
- 2.2 Conduct a pre-performance check with group members and make final adjustments as required
- 2.3 Perform introductions and other aspects of own role competently
- 2.4 Respond to unexpected on stage or front of house issues, and maintain flow and integrity of performance
- 2.5 Interact cooperatively with other performers on stage and confirm their work is acknowledged
- 2.6 Communicate effectively with audience before, between and after performances
3. Evaluate stagecraft of performances
- 3.1 View or listen to recordings of performances to evaluate strengths and weaknesses in relation to stagecraft
- 3.2 Seek feedback from required personnel and incorporate into future improvement strategies
