This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to research, experiment and apply a broad range of advanced illustration techniques to refine and evaluate an individual professional style.The unit applies to highly skilled illustrators who integrate the use of those different techniques explored, to realise a coherent body of creative work. They work with a high level of independence seeking mentoring and guidance as required.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Research illustration ideas and techniques
  • 1.1 Expand knowledge of historical and contemporary illustrations using credible information sources
  • 1.2 Investigate how different technical effects are achieved through particular illustrative techniques
  • 1.3 Evaluate the relationships between illustration techniques and design ideas
  • 1.4 Adapt and use relevant ideas and approaches and comply with intellectual property requirements
2. Select illustration techniques for refinement
  • 2.1 Evaluate creative and professional opportunities offered by different illustration techniques for own approach to work
  • 2.2 Identify and assess limitations and constraints of techniques
  • 2.3 Select a broad range of illustration techniques for refinement
3. Consolidate illustration technique to professional level
  • 3.1 Develop confidence and skill through practice and experimentation
