Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to clean networks using air scouring, chemical or swabbing techniques.It includes planning and preparing the worksite and conducting and completing cleaning activities.This unit applies to those using swabs or air scouring to undergo cleaning of network pipes. Those undertaking this unit would work independently under indirect supervision while performing routine tasks with a moderate level of complexity in familiar contexts.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Workplace policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Plan and prepare work
  • 1.1 Determine work requirements from work instructions and pre-work inspections according to organisational requirements
  • 1.2 Identify hazards, assess risks and implement control measures
  • 1.3 Select and check equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) to meet safety requirements of task and site
  • 1.4 Identify area of network to be cleaned and consult with plans to determine the work area
  • 1.5 Estimate travel speed and volumes of water to be disposed and plan for disposal
2 Conduct cleaning activities
  • 2.1 Prepare equipment at entry and exit site according to workplace procedures
  • 2.2 Undertake cleaning process according to workplace policies and procedures
  • 2.3 Undertake water samples on site according to workplace policies and procedures
  • 2.4 Remove equipment at entry and exit site according to workplace procedures
  • 2.5 Dispose of waste generated from worksite according to organisational, environmental and work health and safety (WHS) procedures and guidelines
3 Complete cleaning activities
  • 3.1 Prepare and collect water samples according to workplace policies and procedures
  • 3.2 Inspect and check equipment for faults according to workplace procedures
  • 3.3 Dispose of waste materials according to workplace procedures, as required
  • 3.4 Restore the worksite and complete and submit workplace records according to workplace procedures
