Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to install raised pavement markers in civil construction, including preparing surface and marking materials, applying raised pavement markers, and measuring work. It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and take some responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.Licensing, legislative and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors. Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare to install raised pavement markers
  • 1.1 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work instructions
  • 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required to install raised pavement markers
  • 1.3 Identify and implement traffic management signage requirements
  • 1.4 Select plant, tools and equipment to carry out tasks and check for faults
  • 1.5 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures within scope of own role
  • 1.6 Select and wear personal protective equipment required for work activities
  • 1.7 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures and identify steps required to respond to emergencies
2. Prepare surface and set out
  • 2.1 Clear area of dirt, debris and other contaminants
  • 2.2 Identify location for raised pavement markers and position to control point
  • 2.3 Remove defective raised pavement markers where required
  • 2.4 Prime marked location for installation of raised pavement markers
3. Prepare marking materials
  • 3.1 Mix and prepare marking material
  • 3.2 Adjust additives and consistency of material to allow easy application and required curing time
  • 3.3 Transfer marking material to applicator container
4. Apply raised pavement markers
  • 4.1 Use equipment with required movement and pressure
  • 4.2 Apply material according to job requirements
  • 4.3 Identify and correct defects with the material
  • 4.4 Perform maintenance on equipment according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
5. Measure work
  • 5.1 Assess, record and report work outcomes according to site requirements
  • 5.2 Calculate and quantify amount of raised pavement markers completed
  • 5.3 Identify and report non-conforming work according to site requirements
6. Conduct clean-up activities
  • 6.1 Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials according to site requirements
  • 6.2 Clean, check, perform maintenance on and store plant, tools and equipment according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
  • 6.3 Carry out housekeeping activities according to site requirements
