Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish and maintain mine services and infrastructure systems in coal mining, including developing installation and commissioning systems and procedures, operational and maintenance procedures, and audit and review systems.It applies to those working in management or technical specialist roles. They generally perform complex, nonroutine tasks involving strategic and planning activities and are responsible for establishing and maintaining operational systems and plans.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Plan and prepare mine services and infrastructure systems
  • 1.1 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.2 Access, interpret and apply mine services and infrastructure documentation
  • 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures according to site requirements
  • 1.4 Identify requirements and purpose of mine services and infrastructure systems according to legislative requirements and the system of mining
  • 1.5 Establish specifications for mine services and infrastructure systems based on analysis of operating requirements
  • 1.6 Identify options from analysis of all relevant technical, operational and financial information
  • 1.7 Select preferred systems according to manufacturer specifications and legislative and site requirements
  • 1.8 Inspect site, assess potential locations for mine services and infrastructure, locate on mine plan and confirm location
2. Select plant, equipment or services
  • 2.1 Conduct detailed scoping of operational requirement and develop key selection criteria according to operational and site requirements
  • 2.2 Establish specifications for required plant, equipment and services
  • 2.3 Select preferred plant, equipment and services according to manufacturer specifications and legislative and site requirements
3. Establish installation and commissioning systems and procedures
  • 3.1 Establish a system to identify hazards and analyse and evaluate risks associated with the installation of plant, equipment and services
  • 3.2 Plan and prepare for integration of new and existing systems and procedures to achieve optimum performance
  • 3.3 Establish procedures for installing and commissioning plant, equipment and services according to site requirements
  • 3.4 Establish systems and procedures to satisfy identified training requirements
4. Establish management systems for operation and maintenance of plant, equipment or services
  • 4.1 Establish operational procedures for plant, equipment and services according to manufacturer specifications and legislative and site requirements
