Description
This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to carry out bore-field operations in Metalliferous Mining. This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles.Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and Industry sectors. Relevant information must be sourced prior to application of the unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for bore-field operations
- 1.1. Access, interpret and apply bore-field operations documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- 1.2. Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- 1.3. Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for the activity
- 1.4. Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
- 1.5. Select, and check for faults, equipment/tools for work activities.
- 1.6. Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
- 1.7. Receive, interpret and clarify shift changeover details
- 1.8. Communicate with other personnel using approved communication methods
- 1.9. Select appropriate equipment and reagents according to job type to maximise efficiency and effectiveness of work activities
2. Carry out bore-field activities
- 2.1. Perform equipment pre-start checks to ensure equipment is ready for operation
- 2.2. Dip bore and record water level
- 2.3. Take sample and test
- 2.4. Adjust water quality and quantity to meet processing requirements
- 2.5. Monitor water storage levels
3. Operate and monitor bore-field equipment
- 3.1. Take and interpret data from equipment indicator readings and adjust flow to maintain dam/tank levels
- 3.2. Continuously inspect plant and pipelines to identify defects and potential problems
- 3.3. Identify, remove and dispose of contaminants to environmental and site requirements
- 3.4. Adjust equipment to approved operating parameters to optimise performance, maintain efficient water treatment systems and to meet water quality targets
- 3.5. Observe safety procedures regarding protection from the elements and communication with site
4. Conduct housekeeping activities
- 4.1. Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials
- 4.2. Clean and maintain condition of equipment, ensure suitability for use, and address/report issues
- 4.3. Manage and/or report hazards, and maintain a safe working environment
- 4.4. Process records
- 4.5. Communicate end of shift information verbally or in writing to oncoming shift
