This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to apply the principles of rigid pavement construction in Civil construction.This unit is appropriate for those working in supervisory roles. No licensing, legislation, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Plan and prepare to apply the principles of rigid pavement construction
  • 1.1 Access, interpret and apply rigid pavement construction documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  • 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select and wear correct personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  • 1.5 Identify and confirm specific task requirements
  • 1.6 Identify, obtain, confirm and implement signage and barriers requirements
  • 1.7 Identify, locate, check for faults and supply all plant, tools and equipment
  • 1.8 Identify, address and report on ground conditions
  • 1.9 Ensure a job plan is available which makes best use of the available resources and meets task requirements
2. Apply the principles of rigid pavement construction
  • 2.1 Ensure clear, concise and timely verbal and written instructions are communicated to team members and others involved
  • 2.2 Confirm the resources are available to meet the specific task requirements
  • 2.3 Set out tasks to ensure effective completion of the work activity
3. Oversee the execution of tasks
  • 3.1 Monitor rigid pavement construction performance to ensure it meets task requirements
  • 3.2 Supply coaching solutions where tasks require problem solving
  • 3.3 Initiate adjustments to work practices or job plan to ensure safe execution of work and achievement of required outcomes
  • 3.4 Ensure plant equipment and tools maintenance requirements are carried out and recorded
  • 3.5 Monitor movements and hazards and identify and communicate changes to the work environment during the work process
4. Conduct housekeeping activities
  • 4.1 Ensure the clearing of the work area and disposal of, reuse or recycling of materials
  • 4.2 Clean, check, maintain and store machinery, tools and equipment
5. Report on the execution of tasks
  • 5.1 Complete and submit written reports
  • 5.2 Recommend corrective actions to improve the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of the execution of tasks
