Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to set up and maintain concrete paver stringlines in civil construction, including installing and removing access points, pins and stepup flags.It applies to those working in operational roles. 1. Plan and prepare to set up and maintain concrete paver stringlines
  • 1.1 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required to set up and maintain concrete paver stringlines and confirm work activity is compliant
  • 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment according to site requirements
  • 1.5 Identify, obtain and implement signage requirements
  • 1.6 Select plant, tools and equipment required to carry out tasks and check for faults
2. Inspect equipment and layout
  • 2.1 Inspect stringlines and confirm compliance against site requirements
  • 2.2 Inspect stringline flags and pins and confirm compliance against site requirements
  • 2.3 Inspect hand or car winch and other required pulling devices and confirm operations meet site requirements
  • 2.4 Inspect ground conditions and confirm compliance against site requirements
  • 2.5 Load and unload stringline pins onto vehicle according to site requirements
  • 2.6 Set up barricades and exclusion zones around work area according to job and site requirements
3. Place stringline and pins
  • 3.1 Drive in stringline pins and place pins according to job and site requirements
  • 3.2 Check and confirm specified tension of stringlines according to site requirements
  • 3.3 Establish specified tensions on stringlines according to job requirements using tension measuring devices
  • 3.4 Set up anchor pins according to job and site requirements
  • 3.5 Tie off stringline to anchor pins
  • 3.6 Release stringline from anchor pins
  • 3.7 Set out from survey pins heights and level and check and confirm alignment according to job requirements
  • 3.8 Reset broken stringlines as specified according to job requirements
4. Install and remove access gates
  • 4.1 Release stringline from flags and fix on ground
  • 4.2 Install and remove protective devices for crossing vehicles as required
  • 4.3 Check and confirm stringline vertical and horizontal upon resetting
5. Store and maintain pins and stringline
  • 5.1 Check and maintain clamps, nuts and drive pins according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
  • 5.2 Clean, check, maintain and store stringline according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
