Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to rehearse for a group performance to the required standard. This includes collaborating with other members of the group to prepare for rehearsals and discussing elements of performance.The unit applies to those who are musicians and vocalists in all genres and who need to rehearse in a group prior to performances No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for rehearsals
  • 1.1 Confirm rehearsal schedule, performance outcomes and materials required at rehearsal with required personnel
  • 1.2 Confirm duration of rehearsals and planned breaks allow for health and safety needs of performers
  • 1.3 Develop and implement a practice plan to prepare individual performance to required standard prior to rehearsal
  • 1.4 Practise individual performance to required standard prior to rehearsal
  • 1.5 Confirm instrument is working and ready to use prior to rehearsal
2. Contribute to rehearsals
  • 2.1 Attend rehearsals at required time with materials and respond to directions as required
  • 2.2 Prepare own instrument or voice according to rehearsal schedule
  • 2.3 Take and give cues at required times, maintaining eye contact with other ensemble players and production personnel
  • 2.4 Discuss stylistic and interpretive questions with other rehearsal participants when required and refine own interpretation of musical performance
  • 2.5 Raise and address technical and other problems with other rehearsal participants
  • 2.6 Establish and develop rapport with members of group during rehearsal and contribute to group discussions and evaluations
3. Perform in rehearsals
  • 3.1 Integrate own part within overall presentation of rehearsal performance in line with performance outcomes
  • 3.2 Contribute to a shared response to work and adjust playing in line with performing group style
  • 3.3 Evaluate and adjust own performance and contribution to group and context
  • 3.4 Seek and incorporate feedback about own performance
  • 3.5 Use energy during rehearsal and demonstrate sustained input and consistent performance quality
