Description
This unit covers skills and knowledge to assemble complex blocked millinery shapes and components that require the selection and application of advanced millinery assembly and construction techniques

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Receive blocked primary and secondary components
- 1.1 Blocked primary and secondary components are related to design specification
- 1.2 Blocked components are collated and adjusted according to design
- 1.3 Adjustments are performed to each component by trimming or adding extensions
2 Confirm and prepare for assembly
- 2.1 Construction components are selected
- 2.2 Millinery assembly techniques are selected according to the design and handling characteristics of the millinery materials, components, trims and the requirements of the design
- 2.3 Sequence of operations is planned
3 Assemble and trim blocked components
- 3.1 Components are pinned, tacked or otherwise ready to assemble
- 3.2 Millinery hand sewing or machine construction techniques are applied to assemble components
- 3.3 Assembled components are inspected to ensure desired proportion and conformance with design specification
- 3.4 Functional and aesthetic trims are applied to the millinery according to the design and specification
4 Finish millinery and present
- 4.1 Techniques are selected to finish the millinery
- 4.2 The final shape is steamed, brushed or moulded
- 4.3 Labels and tags are attached
- 4.4 Millinery is finished for presentation or dispatch
5 Maintain records
- 5.1 Finished millinery and conformance records and reports are accurately maintained
- 5.2 Finished millinery is photographed for recording purposes
