Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to assist the owner or Wool Classer or supervisor in the preparation of sheds and facilities prior to shearing and crutching operations.This unit applies to individuals who work under general supervision and exercise limited autonomy with some accountability for their own work.All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures and standards, and state/territory health and safety regulations, legislation and codes of practice.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements are known to apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare equipment
- 1.1 Inspect the facilities with the owner or Wool Classer or supervisor to determine the degree of preparation required
- 1.2 Clean facilities and equipment as directed
- 1.3 Identify contaminating substances, remove and dispose of according to workplace procedures
- 1.4 Report equipment faults or malfunctions to owner or Wool Classer or supervisor
- 1.5 Select, use and maintain suitable personal protective equipment (PPE) according to workplace standards
2. Arrange equipment and materials
- 2.1 Position equipment according to owner or Wool Classer or supervisor requirements
- 2.2 Arrange bins and wool packs and any other equipment required as per workplace requirements
- 2.3 Position brooms and scrapers where required for efficiency
3. Identify hazards
- 3.1 Identify potential and existing hazards and report to owner or Wool Classer or supervisor
- 3.2 Follow directions of owner or Wool Classer or supervisor in eliminating work health and safety (WHS) hazards
