Description
This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to interpret designs and plans to produce a limited range of floor system drawings and production documents using computers in a timber production or design setting.The unit applies to Designer, Timber Manufactured Products Technician, Production Supervisor. No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Interpret plans and designs
  • 1.1 Gather information about designs and plans, design factors and specifications.
  • 1.2 Access and interpret industry and organisational codes and standards to ensure production of compliant drawings and production documents.
  • 1.3 Identify stakeholders and consult where clarification is needed.
2. Create floor systems
  • 2.1 Design floor systems to ensure compliance with identified standards.
  • 2.2 Check computer software for currency.
  • 2.3 Input applied loads and data to software.
  • 2.4 Identify load transfers and load bearing points.
  • 2.5 Input floor area and create floor systems layout.
  • 2.6 Refer design requirements outside software limitations to appropriate personnel for resolution.
3. Review floor system layouts
  • 3.1 Identify available materials and other production efficiencies and amend designs.
  • 3.2 Review designs to ensure identified standards are maintained.
  • 3.3 Follow organisational procedures to refer design variations to relevant stakeholders where design varies from identified standards.
4. Create outputs
  • 4.1 Prepare drawings and documentation in line with identified standards.
  • 4.2 Store drawings and documentation and communicate to relevant stakeholders.
