Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to operate mobile conveyors in coal mining, including conducting basic planning, preparation and maintenance activities to support operations. It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and take some responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.Licensing, legislative and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories and industry sectors. 1. Plan and prepare to conduct mobile conveyor operations
- 1.1 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required to conduct mobile conveyor operations
- 1.3 Select and wear personal protective equipment according to site requirements
- 1.4 Conduct prestart checks according to site requirements
- 1.5 Plan route to be travelled, identify hazardous conditions and implement control measures according to site requirements
- 1.6 Position and stabilise mobile conveyor according to job requirements
- 1.7 Prepare mobile conveyor for operation according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
- 1.8 Identify, address and report potential hazards and risks according to site requirements
- 1.9 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures and identify steps required to respond to emergencies
2. Operate mobile conveyor
- 2.1 Communicate work activities with others within scope of own role
- 2.2 Carry out start-up procedures according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
- 2.3 Carry out travel and steering, in unison with excavator and hopper, according to manufacturer specifications
- 2.4 Lift and position loads, using mobile conveyor controls and functions from stationary mode, according to manufacturer specifications
- 2.5 Relocate mobile conveyor to new location
- 2.6 Monitor and act on fault indicator/enunciator panel within scope of own role
- 2.7 Complete work plan according to job requirements
- 2.8 Carry out park, shutdown and secure equipment procedures according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
3. Carry out operator maintenance, inspection, testing and reporting
- 3.1 Prepare machine for maintenance according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
- 3.2 Carry out routine and scheduled maintenance tasks according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
- 3.3 Clear and restore worksite according to site requirements
- 3.4 Complete maintenance records according to site requirements
- 3.5 Conduct inspection and fault finding on equipment, devices and systems according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
