Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to conduct ride on road marking operations in civil construction, including carrying out operator checks and maintenance and operating ride on road marking plant to mark new lines and remark existing lines. It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under minimal supervision to undertake a broad range of tasks in varied work contexts, using some discretion and judgement in selecting equipment, services or contingency measures.Licensing, legislative and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors. Users must check requirements with relevant body before applying the unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare to conduct ride on road marking operations
  • 1.1 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work instructions
  • 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required to conduct ride on road marking operations and confirm work activity is compliant
  • 1.3 Identify and implement traffic management signage requirements
  • 1.4 Select plant, tools and equipment to carry out tasks and check for faults
  • 1.5 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures within scope of own role
  • 1.6 Select and wear personal protective equipment required for work activities
  • 1.7 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures and identify steps required to respond to emergencies
  • 1.8 Select fuel and lubricants required for equipment operations
2. Carry out operator checks and maintenance
  • 2.1 Check and adjust fuel, oil, hydraulic fluid filters and water levels
  • 2.2 Tighten and maintain bolts, nuts and attachment couplings
  • 2.3 Check and adjust function of controls and gauges where required
  • 2.4 Carry out pre-start, start-up, park up, shutdown and secure equipment procedures according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
  • 2.5 Carry out scheduled maintenance according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
  • 2.6 Relocate plant and equipment when not in immediate use
3. Use ride on road marking plant
  • 3.1 Drive and operate equipment according to manufacturer specifications and job requirements
  • 3.2 Configure lines to specification
  • 3.3 Apply new lines and superimpose new lines over old lines as required according to job requirements
  • 3.4 Operate line cut off device according to manufacturer specifications and job requirements
4. Conduct clean-up activities
  • 4.1 Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials according to site requirements
  • 4.2 Return surplus fuel, lubricants, paints and beads to storage according to site requirements
  • 4.3 Clean, check, perform maintenance on and store plant, tools and equipment according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
  • 4.4 Carry out housekeeping activities according to site requirements
