Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to create designs and production specifications for woven, knitted, printed or experimental textile products using digital programs. Programs may be generic or specialised to textile applications. The focus of the unit is on the skills to use digital software features.This unit applies to textile designers.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Establish digital design requirements
  • 1.1 Analyse design brief and interpret textile design specifications
  • 1.2 Identify product considerations and production requirements
  • 1.3 Identify and plan work using suitable programs and equipment
2. Use design programs
  • 2.1 Use design programs and equipment to create, modify and edit required designs and production specifications
  • 2.2 Use design programs and equipment to test designs, patterns and production specifications according to workplace procedures
  • 2.3 Present outputs to appropriate personnel to assess accuracy and completeness and make required modifications
3. Assess design results and maintain systems
  • 3.1 Assess outputs generated using digital design programs against design specifications and production requirements
  • 3.2 Identify and make improvements based on design and work requirements
  • 3.3 Store, organise and protect designs, patterns and specifications to enable future access and use
