Description
This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to research architectural styles and movements and identify and analyse how they influence design projects. It includes documenting findings and information as reference materials for use in design projects.The unit applies to drafters who work under the supervision and instruction of building designers or architects and use specialised knowledge to complete routine and non-routine tasks and deal with predictable and sometimes unpredictable drafting problems.No legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

  • 1.1 Locate relevant research sources of information on architectural styles and movements.
  • 1.2 Select formal and informal research techniques to access required information.
  • 1.3 Determine scope of research.
2 Conduct research and document findings.
  • 2.1 Examine geographical influences on architectural styles and movements.
  • 2.2 Examine historical, cultural, economic and environmental influences on architectural styles and movements.
  • 2.3 Identify features of architecture.
  • 2.4 Analyse significant trends in architectural design and use of materials and techniques.
  • 2.5 Analyse the influence and impact of architecture on interior design and the relationship of the two disciplines.
  • 2.6 Apply research information to current architectural design trends, philosophy and surrounding buildings.
