Description
This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to maintain small arms ammunition to depot level maintenance requirements as specified by the Australian Defence Force.It includes preparing for and maintaining small arms ammunition, and completing maintenance activity. It also includes identifying and selecting tools and equipment, and applying organisational safety requirements and appropriate legislative and regulatory requirements.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare for small arms ammunition maintenance
  • 1.1 Identify, analyse and confirm small arms ammunition maintenance requirements from work requests/instructions
  • 1.2 Apply work health and safety (WHS) requirements in accordance with organisational procedures throughout the operation
  • 1.3 Identify, confirm and obtain small arms ammunition to be maintained, in accordance with technical documentation
  • 1.4 Identify, obtain and prepare technical references, tools, equipment, consumables and packaging components in accordance with organisational procedures
  • 1.5 Identify, calculate, assess and apply net explosive quantities and compatibility throughout the operation
  • 1.6 Monitor and maintain environmental conditions, as required
2 Maintain small arms ammunition
  • 2.1 Inspect small arms ammunition in accordance with organisational procedures
  • 2.2 Conduct relevant maintenance in accordance with organisational procedures, technical specifications and drawings
  • 2.3 Apply emergency and contingency procedures, as required
  • 2.4 Conduct and record relevant small arms ammunition tests in accordance with organisational procedures, technical specifications and drawings
3 Complete maintenance activity
  • 3.1 Process small arms ammunition in accordance with the work requests/instructions
  • 3.2 Maintain equipment/tools in accordance with organisational procedures and guidelines
  • 3.3 Conduct housekeeping procedures in accordance with workshop requirements
  • 3.4 Maintain documentation and records in accordance with statutory, organisational and workshop requirements
