Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to manage processes for patternmaking of complex or specialised garments. It may include patterns for unique body shapes or patterns involving complex construction features, complex zero-waste patternmaking methods, or virtual 3D pattern development.This unit applies to patternmakers.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Manage preparations for patternmaking process
- 1.1 Interpret design brief and specifications and identify scope of patternmaking requirements
- 1.2 Analyse critical measurements to develop patterns for unique body shapes, features and specialised garments
- 1.3 Determine patternmaking requirements and grading methodologies based on specifications
- 1.4 Analyse critical paths for the patternmaking process according to design specifications and other workplace considerations
2. Manage development of patterns
- 2.1 Identify requirements and organise preparation of patterns for sampling and product development to meet workplace needs
- 2.2 Confirm patterns for sampling and product development
- 2.3 Implement and monitor all aspects of sampling and product development to ensure patternmaking meets required quality standards
3. Review and document patternmaking process
- 3.1 Communicate with production personnel to finalise and assess the patternmaking process against the design specifications
- 3.2 Accurately document pattern development, formulas and methods used
- 3.3 Prepare and assemble required documentation in accordance with workplace procedures
