Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to grout polished concrete floors. Workers with this competency interpret task instructions and plans and follow established workplace procedures using judgement and problem-solving to identify and resolve routine issues. They work with some self-direction under routine supervision. The work described in this unit may require a licence or certification in some jurisdictions, and state or territory authorities should be consulted to determine the current status. Workers on construction sites are required by law to complete induction training. They must also comply with relevant legislation, regulations, Australian Standards, codes and manufacturer installation instructions.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare to grout polished concrete floors
- 1.1 Interpret grouting requirements from job and manufacturer instructions and calculate the quantities of materials required
- 1.2 Identify hazards relating to the worksite, work practices, materials, tools and equipment, and check risk treatments are in place and operating
- 1.3 Select and check that required tools and equipment are ready to use, and organise to fix any deficiencies according to workplace procedures
- 1.4 Gather grouting materials and other materials required by job instructions, and check they meet quality requirements and are ready to use according to the manufacturer instructions, product labels, safety data sheets and workplace procedures
- 1.5 Assess if the floor needs grinding, and grind and hone according to the material manufacturer instructions
2. Mix, apply and finish off the grout
- 2.1 Establish a suitable mixing area and protect surrounding surfaces
- 2.2 Prepare and apply grout according to the manufacturer instructions, product labels, safety data sheets and workplace procedures
- 2.3 Cut off excess grout and finish the floor according to job instructions
- 2.4 Check the floor is grouted correctly according to job instructions and quality requirements, and fix any deficiencies
3. Complete the task according to workplace procedures
- 3.1 Clean up the work area, identify items for recycling and dispose of waste
- 3.2 Identify, tag and report any damage to equipment and tools
- 3.3 Check, clean and do routine maintenance on equipment and tools and store them and unused materials
- 3.4 Complete task outcome documentation
