This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to prepare policies and briefs relating to access to and use of the built environment with clients, for application in new development projects. The policies and briefs must comply with legislation, regulations and standards but may exceed them, based on the requirements of the owner or developer and the purpose of the space or facility.The unit supports both policies and briefs relating to new and modification works. It applies to experienced access consultants who offer the service of developing access and use policy and detailed briefs on access and use provisions to be applied in construction and transport projects. Clients using these services will be involved in developing premises, transport systems and services, and outdoor spaces; and may include community organisations, government departments, private companies, and individuals, such as designers and builders. No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit of competency at the time of endorsement.
