Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to perform aircrewman cockpit duties, in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and national operating standards.It includes monitoring flight conditions and responding to abnormal/emergency situations. This unit addresses aviation technical skill requirements (physical, mental and task-management abilities) related to aircraft operational duties of flight crew, and contributes to safe and effective performance in complex aviation operational environments.Operations are conducted as part of recreational, commercial and military aircraft activities across a variety of operational contexts within the Australian aviation industry.Work is performed independently or under limited supervision within a single-pilot or multi-crew environment.Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements are applicable to this unit.Use for Defence Aviation is to be in accordance with relevant Defence Orders, Instructions, Publications and Regulations.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Monitor flight conditions
  • 1.1 Instruments are monitored throughout flight for correct indication and operation
  • 1.2 Aircraft altitude, attitude and heading are monitored
  • 1.3 Situational awareness is maintained to ensure safe flight
  • 1.4 Fuel usage is monitored
  • 1.5 Aircraft operating limits are monitored and advice is provided to pilot in command
  • 1.6 Operational documentation is interpreted and information is provided to pilot in command
  • 1.7 Aircraft operational checks are completed
2 Respond to abnormal/emergency situations
  • 2.1 Abnormal/emergency situations are identified and diagnosed
  • 2.2 Abnormal/emergency response is undertaken in accordance with aircraft checklists, pilot directions, and organisational policy and procedures
