Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to rehearse and perform as a member of a group in a musical theatre performance.The unit applies to those who are performers and who receive supervision and guidance in practice sessions and rehearsals, however, are expected to display a high level of responsibility for themselves and others when applying their acting, dancing and singing skills in a live performance context. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare and rehearse for performance
  • 1.1 Identify and confirm rehearsal and role requirements
  • 1.2 Perform physical and vocal warm-up and cool-down procedures in line with performance requirements
  • 1.3 Manage performance outcomes through building effective work relationships with members of the rehearsal team
  • 1.4 Practise improving own part in line with performance expectations
  • 1.5 Adapt aspects of individual performance as directed
  • 1.6 Identify and implement strategies to pace energy and focus during rehearsals
  • 1.7 Identify and demonstrate behaviour expected at rehearsals
2. Perform role
  • 2.1 Identify and implement techniques for overcoming performance anxiety
  • 2.2 Concentrate and focus throughout performance
  • 2.3 Perform effectively in character using required physical and vocal resources according to performance requirements
  • 2.4 Perform in a style required for the performance context
  • 2.5 Respond flexibly to contingencies as required
  • 2.6 Display awareness of staging, special effects and health and safety issues when performing role
  • 2.7 Interact considerately with stage management and other artistic, venue, studio and organisational staff as required
3. Evaluate performances
  • 3.1 Review performances in association with other performers and identify factors for future improvement
  • 3.2 Contribute to assessment of audience response to performances
  • 3.3 Assess technical and artistic development by measuring own performance against previous work
  • 3.4 Analyse and develop strategies for improving performance
