Description
This unit of competency covers the skills and knowledge required to remove and replace the side wall cladding of a recreational vehicle. The same cladding may be replaced, or the removed cladding may be replaced with a different cladding. This unit includes the removal and replacement of a single strip of cladding up to an entire sidewall cladding. The work will be carried out in a recreational vehicle service and repair facility.This unit of competency covers the preparation for, removal of, replacement of, and clean-up after the removal and replacement of a floor.The operator will be required to work to procedures, and follow plans/specifications, insurance requirements and customer needs. This unit of competency applies to an individual working alone or as part of a team/work group and working in liaison with other shift team members.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Plan the work
  • 1.1 Review the requirements of the work, including insurance requirements and customer needs
  • 1.2 Examine cladding and determine what needs to be done and how to do it
  • 1.3 Check required tools and jigs are available at the worksite
  • 1.4 Check required materials and components are available at the worksite
  • 1.5 Identify any hazards and the related hazard controls
  • 1.6 Check the hazard controls are in place and operational
  • 1.7 Query any items which are different to usual and clarify requirements
2 Remove cladding in accordance with devised procedures
  • 2.1 Use relevant hazard controls, including personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • 2.2 Remove cladding maximising the potential for reuse
  • 2.3 Segregate and handle waste in accordance with procedures
  • 2.4 Temporarily store cladding and components which are to be reused
3 Refurbish sidewall frame as required
  • 3.1 Use relevant hazard controls, including PPE
  • 3.2 Examine exposed sidewall frame
  • 3.3 Identify any additional damage revealed and decide how it can be made good
  • 3.4 Negotiate with customer over any changes in job scope and cost
  • 3.5 Make good/replace sidewall frame as required
  • 3.6 Ensure sidewall frame is fixed to chassis and roof as appropriate
4 Replace sidewall cladding in accordance with devised procedures
  • 4.1 Use relevant hazard controls, including PPE
  • 4.2 Replace sidewall cladding in accordance with the devised procedure
  • 4.3 Trim as required
  • 4.4 Ensure cladding is attached as required
5 Finish removal and replacement of sidewall cladding
  • 5.1 Check sidewall cladding has been refitted correctly and make any required adjustments
  • 5.2 Clean up recreational vehicle and make ready for hand back to customer
  • 5.3 Clean up work area, leaving it ready for the next job
  • 5.4 Segregate and handle waste in accordance with procedures
  • 5.5 Complete any required documentation/records
