Description
This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to plan and manage forest assessments, based on an inventory program. The unit includes conducting consultative processes, and monitoring and analysing the effectiveness of the program.The unit applies to job roles including Arboriculture Manager, Forest Manager, Forestry Manager, Harvesting Manager, Nursery Manager, Plantation Establishment Manager, Plantation Manager and Production Manager.No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan inventory program
  • 1.1 Analyse requirements for an inventory program.
  • 1.2 Review relevant site environmental protection measures, and legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • 1.3 Check timeline and budget for inventory program.
  • 1.4 Review organisational plans to check impact on tree breeding operation
  • 1.5 Determine and document methods of measurement and frequency of inventory assessment.
  • 1.6 Consult and obtain input to inventory program.
  • 1.7 Develop a documented plan for inventory program and obtain necessary approvals.
  • 1.8 Communicate the plan to relevant personnel.
2. Implement inventory program
  • 2.1 Implement inventory program according to planned methods, schedule, budget and legislative requirements.
  • 2.2 Coordinate required resources and authorisations.
  • 2.3 Communicate schedule for inventory assessment to coordinating personnel.
  • 2.4 Maintain documentation for all stages of the inventory.
3. Monitor inventory assessment
  • 3.1 Identify monitoring points and check inventory assessment to ensure compliance with environmental, WHS, organisational and legislative requirements
  • 3.2 Amend or revise inventory program and assessment processes to ensure specifications, quality and performance targets are met.
4. Review inventory assessment
  • 4.1 Review inventory assessment against inventory program and organisational requirements
  • 4.2 Analyse data and information to determine effectiveness of inventory assessment and improvements to future programs.
  • 4.3 Make recommendations for future programs based on findings of analysis and consultation conducted
  • 4.4 Record and report on inventory program outcomes to the appropriate personnel
