Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide Pastoral Narrative Disclosure (PND) to assist members and their families who may have Moral Injury. This unit applies to Chaplaincy in Defence, although it would also apply to others who work in this field, including emergency first responders. This includes theology of multi-faith or other belief systems. The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.Those undertaking this unit would work independently and perform complex tasks in a complex environment.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare for initial engagement in Moral Injury support
  • 1.1 Access information from the Moral Injury PND manual
  • 1.2 Apply the information with appropriate pastoral care strategies in a Defence context to members and their families in accordance with organisational procedures
  • 1.3 Confirm understanding of Moral Injury from member and their family
2 Provide advice on the PND model
  • 2.1 Summarise the eight stages of the PND model used in the Moral Injury recovery process
  • 2.2 Explain to the member and their family on how the PND model can assist in Moral Injury recovery
  • 2.3 Conduct command briefings about PND in accordance with organisational policies and procedures
  • 2.4 Provide advice about PND to supervisors, managers and other relevant personnel
3 Provide multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary support strategies
  • 3.1 Determine the role and function of key personnel in providing Moral Injury support strategies
  • 3.2 Establish and maintain cooperative, working relationships to support successful interactions
  • 3.3 Promote the benefits of working collaboratively to achieve positive outcomes for members and their families
4 Complete records of intervention
  • 4.1 Select the correct intervention description from the international intervention coding system
  • 4.2 Record interventions and store in accordance with organisational policy and guidance procedures
  • 4.3 Store other relevant information in accordance with organisational policy and guidance procedures
