Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to remove and install rear vision mirrors attached to vehicle windscreens. This unit involves preparing for the task, selecting and using tools and equipment, selecting glass adhesives, cleaning glass surface, apply adhesive, positioning and securing rear vision mirror, and completing workplace processes and documentation.The unit applies to those who work in the automotive service and repair industry.No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare to remove and install rear vision mirror
- 1.1 Identify job requirements from workplace instructions
- 1.2 Identify required information for repair activity
- 1.3 Identify hazards associated with the work, assess potential risks and implement control measures in line with workplace policies and procedures
- 1.4 Identify tools and equipment required for repair activity and establish serviceability according to workplace procedures
2. Remove and install rear vision mirror
- 2.1 Carry out rear vision mirror removal according to workplace procedures, workplace health and safety and environmental requirements
- 2.2 Clean and prepare glass surface according to workplace procedures
- 2.3 Prepare and apply adhesive to glass surface
- 2.4 Position and install mirror according to workplace and manufacturer procedures and manufacturer specifications
3. Complete work processes
- 3.1 Conduct final inspection according to workplace procedures and confirm vehicle is ready for use
- 3.2 Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials according to workplace procedures
- 3.3 Complete documentation according to workplace procedures
