Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to create a garment pattern from an existing block for an individual size. It includes measuring the client and determining pattern modifications needed to achieve optimum individual fit.This unit applies to individuals who use discretion and judgement in planning and selecting patternmaking processes to achieve outcomes.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Determine pattern modifications for individual size
  • 1.1 Identify client design and fit requirements
  • 1.2 Take and record accurate client body measurements based on design requirements
  • 1.3 Identify other body characteristics that will impact garment fit
  • 1.4 Select appropriate block for modification based on fabric to be used and design and fit requirements
2. Modify garment pattern
  • 2.1 Assess and compare block against individual body measurements
  • 2.2 Identify modifications that will achieve optimum fit for individual client
  • 2.3 Use patternmaking principles to make required size adjustments
  • 2.4 Document methods and formulas used
  • 2.5 Check pattern pieces, label and complete markings
3. Confirm fit and finalise pattern
  • 4.1 Toile garment to test proportioning and fit
  • 4.2 Fit prototype to ensure that pattern is satisfactory to customer
  • 4.3 Complete any pattern alterations and assess pattern meets fit and design requirements
  • 4.4 Finalise pattern and check it is accurate, complete and complies with design specifications
  • 4.5 Complete pattern specification sheet, attach to patterns for storage and file appropriately
