Description
This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to use traditional techniques to produce jewellery or objects. It includes conducting research to assess the suitability of traditional techniques for achieving desired outcomes and identifying and addressing problems, which can arise in reproduction.This unit applies to individuals involved in jewellery or object manufacture in a small or large-scale production context. They use and adapt technical skills and knowledge to produce work that meets pre-determined design and production requirements.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Band: AUnit Weight: 4

1. Determine job requirements
  • 1.1 Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and environmental requirements
  • 1.2 Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  • 1.3 Use personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
  • 1.4 Identify job requirements from specifications
2. Identify item requiring use of traditional techniques
  • 2.1 Identify and research features and applications of a given traditional jewellery or object production technique
  • 2.2 Establish requirements for applying a given technique to a specified item from source documentation or appropriate persons
  • 2.3 Assess the suitability of the required technique to specific jewellery or object
  • 2.4 Identify potential problems and difficulties and consider alternatives in consultation with appropriate persons
3. Select and source materials and equipment
  • 3.1 Identify and source materials appropriate for production using selected technique
  • 3.2 Obtain or produce tools and equipment appropriate to the technique
4. Apply traditional techniques to produce item
  • 4.1 Identify and plan stages, materials, tools and equipment required for use of the technique
  • 4.2 Identify and use other information and conditions relevant to successfully applying the technique
  • 4.3 Reproduce traditional jewellery or object production technique according to industry standards and client expectations
