Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes required to advise customers on the compliance of steering and suspension modifications with Australian Design Rules (ADRs) for normal road usage. It involves clarifying modifications, determining modification compliance with ADRs, and completing workplace processes and documentation.It applies to those working in the automotive service and repair industry. The steering and suspension systems are those of four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles, light vehicles and light commercial vehicles.No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Clarify details of steering and suspension modification
  • 1.1 Confirmation is sought, through discussion with the customer, of the nature of steering and suspension modification
  • 1.2 Modification specifications and dimensions are determined and documented
  • 1.3 Non-standard steering and suspension components are identified
2. Determine specific ADR information relating to modification
  • 2.1 ADR bulletin applicable to modification is sourced and ruling on the legality of intended modification is identified and interpreted
  • 2.2 Compliance of modification specifications with ADR requirements is identified and documented
  • 2.3 Interpretation of ruling in relation to intended modification is clarified and discussed with customer
3. Recommend a plan of action to achieve ADR requirements
  • 3.1 Suitable plan of action to meet ADR requirements is discussed and clarified with customer
  • 3.2 Workplace documentation, including recommendations for modification, is processed according to workplace procedures
