This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to apply plan and evaluate rig operations in Drilling.This unit is appropriate for those working in supervisory roles.Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors. Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for planning and evaluating rig operations
- 1.1 Access, interpret and apply plan and evaluate rig operations documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- 1.3 Identify, address and report potential hazards, risks and environmental issues and implement control measures
- 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate to the work activities
- 1.5 Resolve coordination requirements with others at the site prior to commencing and during, and on completion of work activities
- 1.6 Identify financial/insurance implications of non-conformance and notify appropriate personnel/authorities
2. Establish risk management strategies
- 2.1 Identify role and legal responsibilities of rig managers, supervisors and personnel, implement measures to manage responsibilities
- 2.2 Examine, interpret and implement processes for regulations, code of practice and specific site manuals
- 2.3 Access, interpret and apply understanding of auditing workplace hazards, evaluate findings and implement control measures
- 2.4 Establish on-site meeting processes for communicating and resolving safety issues with personnel and appropriate authorities
- 2.5 Evaluate rig operations and performance, communicate with client and implement changes as required
- 2.6 Identify and implement coaching and mentoring arrangements and design appropriate training or corrective strategies for performance issues
3. Implement rig safety compliance system
- 3.1 Identify and implement site communication requirements
- 3.2 Identify and demonstrate radio communication strategies and reporting techniques
- 3.3 Maintain systems, written records and reporting procedures
- 3.4 Identify and investigate non-conformances, report and implement corrective strategies
