Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to interpret and apply the rules of golf that are needed to play golf in competitions or tournaments. This unit prepares candidates for undertaking the Club Level Rules Accreditation as conducted by Golf Australia and its state affiliates.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Develop knowledge of the rules of golf.
  • 1.1 Access and interpret the key rules and etiquette requirements of golf.
  • 1.2 Use a range of resources to help develop rules knowledge.
2. Observe a golf round, competition or tournament.
  • 2.1 Observe players and club officials, with minimal disruption to the game, to confirm that the game is conducted according to the rules and etiquette of golf.
  • 2.2 Seek clarification of application of golf rules and etiquette as required.
  • 2.3 Identify any breaches of rules and etiquette by players and report to appropriate personnel according to organisational policies and procedures.
3. Interpret and apply rules and etiquette of golf to own game.
  • 3.1 Prepare for a round, competition or tournament according to the rules and regulations of golf.
  • 3.2 Make decisions on own game using relevant information.
  • 3.3 Check and confirm own score with marker according to the rules and regulations of golf.
  • 3.4 Refer decisions to officials in round, competition or tournament play as appropriate.
  • 3.5 Confirm the interpretation of rules and etiquette is consistent with the documented rules of golf.
  • 3.6 Communicate breaches of rules to appropriate personnel.
  • 3.7 Mark partner scorecard according to the rules and regulations of golf.

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit
Evidence of the ability to:
access rules and use Rule Book to find relevant information
develop knowledge of golf rules by using a range of resources and by observing rounds, competitions or tournaments
make decisions in relation to own game based on the rules and etiquette of golf
decide how and when to refer decisions to officials for clarification
recognise and report when breaches of rules and etiquette occur according to appropriate channels and using appropriate communication strategies
apply knowledge of golf rules, regulations and etiquette to mark cards and to confirm own score with marker.
Context of and specific resources for assessment
Assessment must ensure:
interpretation of the rules of golf and the application of these to own game at a professional level under competition conditions on sufficient occasions to demonstrate competency and consistency of performance.
Assessment must also ensure access to:
golf courses and competition facilities
other participants competing in rounds, competitions and tournaments to observe and practice with
suitably qualified golfing officials and support staff
resources and equipment such as books, publications, and scorecards
rules and etiquette of golf.
Method of assessment
A range of assessment methods should be used to assess practical skills and knowledge. The following examples are appropriate for this unit:
observation of practical application of rules and regulations to own game
oral or written questioning to assess knowledge of relevant rules, regulations and etiquette of golf
third-party reports from officials or professionals detailing application of rules and regulations
completed and verified score cards.
