Description
This unit of competency covers the skills and knowledge required to remove and replace the roof hatches, windows and external doors on a recreational vehicle. The same hatches, windows and doors may be replaced, or the removed hatches, windows and doors may be replaced with different hatches, windows and doors. This unit also covers the resealing of hatches, windows and doors. The work will be carried out in a recreational vehicle service and repair facility.This unit of competency covers the preparation for, removal of, replacement of, and clean-up after the removal, replacement and resealing of hatches, windows and doors.The operator will be required to work to procedures, and follow plans/specifications, insurance requirements and customer needs. This unit of competency applies to an individual working alone or as part of a team/work group and working in liaison with other shift team members.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Plan the work
  • 1.1 Review the requirements of the work, including insurance requirements and customer needs
  • 1.2 Examine hatches, windows and doors, determine what needs to be done and how to do it
  • 1.3 Check required tools and jigs are available at the worksite
  • 1.4 Check required materials and components are available at the worksite
  • 1.5 Identify any hazards and the related hazard controls
  • 1.6 Check that hazard controls are in place and operational
  • 1.7 Query any items that are different to usual and clarify requirements
2 Remove hatches, windows and doors in accordance with devised procedures
  • 2.1 Use relevant hazard controls, including personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • 2.2 Remove hatches, windows and doors maximising the potential for reuse
  • 2.3 Segregate and handle waste in accordance with procedures
  • 2.4 Temporarily store hatches, windows and doors which are to be reused
3 Refurbish components as required
  • 3.1 Use relevant hazard controls, including PPE
  • 3.2 Examine all removed items and the adjacent parts of the caravan which have been revealed
  • 3.3 Identify any additional damage revealed and decide how it can be made good
  • 3.4 Negotiate with customer over any changes in job scope and cost
  • 3.5 Make good/replace components as required
4 Replace hatches, windows and doors in accordance with devised procedures
  • 4.1 Use relevant hazard controls, including PPE
  • 4.2 Replace hatches, windows and doors in accordance with the devised procedure
  • 4.3 Ensure items are attached as required
  • 4.4 Adjust as required
5 Reseal hatches, windows and doors in accordance with devised procedures
  • 5.1 Use relevant hazard controls, including PPE
  • 5.2 Replace seals/sealing material in accordance with the devised procedure
  • 5.3 Adjust/trim as required
  • 5.4 Ensure seals are effective
6 Finish removal and replacement of hatches, windows and doors
  • 6.1 Check hatches, windows and doors have been refitted correctly and make any required adjustments
  • 6.2 Clean up recreational vehicle and make ready for hand back to customer
  • 6.3 Clean up work area, leaving it ready for the next job
  • 6.4 Segregate and handle waste in accordance with procedures
  • 6.5 Complete any required documentation/records
