Description
This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to perform environmental health planning as a member of the Australian Defence Force (ADF).It includes conducting an environmental health analysis to develop an environmental health plan.This unit applies to preventive medicine supervisors.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.Persons undertaking this unit work independently, supervise small teams and perform complex tasks in a range of familiar contexts.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Conduct an environmental health analysis
  • 1.1 Determine scope and context of environmental health support required in accordance with operational policy
  • 1.2 Identify and review health intelligence sources
  • 1.3 Conduct an environmental health threat risk assessment
  • 1.4 Identify environmental health tasks to mitigate each threat in accordance with operational procedures
  • 1.5 Determine environmental health strategies and action in accordance with scope and context of identified support
  • 1.6 Compare strategies with responsiveness to potential obstacles and key health threats
  • 1.7 Present a health analysis brief to relevant stakeholders for consultation and guidance in accordance with operational procedure
2 Develop environmental health plan
  • 2.1 Identify environmental health stakeholders for specific tasking within the plan
  • 2.2 Allocate environmental health assets in accordance with agreed environmental health strategies
  • 2.3 Prioritise and sequence environmental health tasking in accordance with environmental health strategies
  • 2.4 Apply principles of health support
  • 2.5 Draft environmental health plan to support strategic adaptability to react effectively when environmental circumstances change unexpectedly
  • 2.6 Present draft plan to relevant stakeholders and personnel for approval in accordance with operational procedures
  • 2.7 Finalise environmental health plan that incorporates stakeholder feedback and recommendations, in accordance with plan scope and operational procedures
