Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to inspect damaged vehicle systems and recommend repair options. This unit involves preparing for the task, inspecting vehicle system damage, determining the extent of damage by measuring and recommending repair options consistent with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or authorised agency repair instructions. It also involves completing workplace processes and other documentation, including a final inspection report.The unit applies to those who work in the automotive body service and repair industry.No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for inspection
  • 1.1 Determine job requirements from workplace instructions
  • 1.2 Source and interpret vehicle specifications from OEM or authorised agency and workplace inspection procedures
  • 1.3 Analyse inspection methods, and select and prepare required option for vehicle and job requirements
  • 1.4 Identify hazards associated with the work and manage risks
  • 1.5 Source technical and calibration equipment for vehicle system inspection and check for serviceability
2. Inspect damaged vehicle
  • 2.1 Carry out inspection according to workplace procedures and safety requirements
  • 2.2 Record extent of vehicle damage and damage location during inspection
3. Analyse inspection results
  • 3.1 Compare results with vehicle specifications to identify compliance or non-compliance
  • 3.2 Determine required repair action following analysis of options
  • 3.3 Document repair options with supporting evidence and information
  • 3.4 Complete final inspection report according to workplace procedures
4. Complete work processes
  • 4.1 Check and store technical and calibration equipment according to workplace procedures
  • 4.2 Process workplace documentation according to workplace procedures
