Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform well servicing nippling-up and pressure testing in drilling. It prepares individuals to carry out nippling-up of blow out prevention (BOP), perform BOP and pressure testing, and carry out rig-up to drill out operations.It applies to those working in supervisory or technical specialist roles. They generally perform tasks involving a broad range of varied activities most of which are complex and non-routine and are responsible for the quantity and quality of the output of others.Licensing, legislative and certification requirements that may apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors. Users must check requirements with relevant body before applying the unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for nippling-up and pressure testing
  • 1.1 Obtain, read, confirm and apply work instructions
  • 1.2 Access, interpret and apply compliance documentation and legislation and confirm work activity is compliant
  • 1.3 Identify and minimise environmental issues and potential hazards, and assess and address risks within scope of own role and according to workplace procedures
  • 1.4 Confirm personnel coordination requirements at the site are met prior to commencement of work activities
  • 1.5 Check and adjust surface equipment pressure ratings and compatibility
2. Perform nippling-up
  • 2.1 Identify manufacturer and site requirement for selected blow out prevention system
  • 2.2 Supervise or participate in connecting BOP to casing
  • 2.3 Supervise or participate in nippling-up of BOP
3. Perform pressure test
  • 3.1 Perform accurate BOP test
  • 3.2 Carry out rig-up to drill-out operations according to parameters, specifications and operations
  • 3.3 Carry out pressure tests prior to operations and record in writing test results
