This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop and implement a Quality Assurance (QA) program for a rendering plant.This unit is suitable for people working in the rendering sector. Work must involve interaction between staff and the individual and a detailed understanding of the rendering process.This unit must be delivered in the context of Australian meat industry standards and regulations.No occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements are known to apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Develop a QA program for rendering plant
  • 1.1 Develop process flow chart for rendering plant
  • 1.2 Identify Control and Critical Control Points (CCPs)
  • 1.3 Identify procedures to be carried out at control and CCPs
  • 1.4 Validate critical limits
  • 1.5 Develop operations manual, monitoring sheets and verification procedures
2. Implement the QA program at the rendering plant
  • 2.1 Clearly explain QA procedures and requirements to relevant personnel
  • 2.2 Coach and mentor staff when introducing work instructions and operating procedures
  • 2.3 Introduce and monitor verification and recording procedures
  • 2.4 Conduct internal audit to verify program
