This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to conduct dredging operations in Metalliferous mining and Extractive.This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles.No licensing or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for dredging operations
  • 1.1 Access, interpret and apply dredging operations documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  • 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  • 1.5 Inspect and prepare work area in coordination with others
  • 1.6 Prepare a work plan that effectively, efficiently and safely meets the work requirements
  • 1.7 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for an emergency
2. Operate dredge
  • 2.1 Communicate with others at the site, and resolve coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities
  • 2.2 Carry out pre-start, start-up, mooring and shutdown procedures
  • 2.3 Relocate position and secure dredge for operation
  • 2.4 Select and modify operating techniques to suit changing work conditions
  • 2.5 Conduct, control and monitor operations within the equipment limitations
  • 2.6 Act on or report monitoring systems and alarms
  • 2.7 Continually monitor hazards and risks , and ensure safety of self, other personnel, plant and equipment
  • 2.8 Complete work the plan within the operating capacity of the equipment
3. Carry out post-operational procedures
  • 3.1 Inspect, fault find, report and recommend corrective actions
  • 3.2 Process written records and reports
4. Conduct housekeeping activities
  • 4.1 Clean, check, maintain and store plant, tools and equipment
  • 4.2 Report issues identified with plant, tools and equipment
