Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform competition vehicle preparations at a motor sport event. It involves preparing for the task, interpreting category and event team specifications, finalising technical preparations, conducting pre-race checks and post-race maintenance, and preparing a vehicle for scrutineering.The unit applies to those working in the motor sport industry.No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for work
- 1.1 Determine job requirements from event information and check against ‘on the day’ operating conditions, and seek required clarification of specifications
- 1.2 Select and check tools and equipment for serviceability
- 1.3 Identify hazards associated with the work and manage risks
- 1.4 Clean work area and lay out for job requirements
2. Finalise technical preparation
- 2.1 Configure vehicle settings for each race
- 2.2 Report problems with work area or operation of equipment to persons according to team procedures as required
- 2.3 Propose modifications or adaptation of equipment as required according to team procedures
- 2.4 Document vehicle settings according to team procedures
3. Conduct pre-race checks
- 3.1 Carry out checks according to team checklists and without causing damage to components
- 3.2 Report problems with components or systems as required to persons according to team procedures
4. Prepare vehicle for scrutineering
- 4.1 Inspect vehicle systems and safety components according to regulatory body requirements, category rules and supplementary regulations
- 4.2 Identify and rectify problems with vehicle compliance according to team procedures as required
- 4.3 Report problems with vehicle compliance that cannot be rectified to persons according to team procedures as required
5. Conduct between-race maintenance
- 5.1 Inspect condition of components and systems according to team checklist, and repair or replace as required according to safety requirements and team procedures
- 5.2 Clean and refuel vehicle according to team procedures and safety and environmental requirements
- 5.3 Collect and log vehicle manual and electronic data according to team procedures
- 5.4 Conduct driver or rider technical debrief according to team procedures
6. Complete work processes
- 6.1 Conduct final inspection according to workplace procedures and confirm vehicle is ready for use
- 6.2 Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials according to workplace procedures
- 6.3 Complete team and event documentation according to workplace procedures
