This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to supervise civil timber structure construction, including implementing the job plan and overseeing and reporting on the execution of civil timber structure construction tasks.It applies to those working in supervisory or technical specialist roles. They generally perform a broad range of operational activities in their area of responsibility and are responsible for monitoring a safe working environment. Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare tasks
  • 1.1 Obtain, interpret and confirm work requirements
  • 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required to supervise civil timber structure construction and confirm work activity is compliant
  • 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment according to site requirements
  • 1.5 Prepare and implement a job plan that meets task requirements in consultation with team members
  • 1.6 Confirm required resources are acquired and made available for task
2. Prepare team members to execute tasks
  • 2.1 Identify team member training requirements and develop and implement training plans
  • 2.2 Issue task instructions to team members and others involved according to job requirements
3. Oversee execution of tasks
  • 3.1 Monitor civil timber structure construction task performance and confirm outcomes are achieved according to job requirements
  • 3.2 Initiate adjustments to work processes and job plan as required to meet job requirements
  • 3.3 Provide support to team members where tasks require problem solving
  • 3.4 Monitor movements and hazards and identify and communicate changes to work environment
4. Oversee housekeeping activities
  • 4.1 Check and confirm work area is cleared and materials are disposed of, reused, recycled or stored according to site requirements
  • 4.2 Check and confirm plant, equipment and tool maintenance requirements are carried out and recorded according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
5. Report on execution of tasks
  • 5.1 Complete and submit reports according to site requirements
  • 5.2 Recommend required changes to improve civil timber structure construction to meet job requirements
