Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to extend, retract and maintain conveyor componentry in coal mining, including belts, rollers, structures and belt control equipment.It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and take some responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.No licensing, legislation or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare to extend, retract and maintain conveyor componentry
- 1.1 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required for conveyor componentry extension, retraction and maintenance
- 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures according to site requirements
- 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment according to site requirements
- 1.5 Obtain, transport and prepare materials and resources according job requirements
- 1.6 Prepare worksite according to job requirements
2. Install and retract belt conveyor componentry
- 2.1 Communicate work activities with others within scope of own role
- 2.2 Isolate and connect auxiliary componentry according to job requirements
- 2.3 Extend and retract belt conveyor componentry according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
- 2.4 Inspect conveyor for line and level and confirm it meets job requirements
- 2.5 Recover conveyor equipment systematically and minimise loss and damage
- 2.6 Recognise and respond to hazards and emergencies as required
3. Carry out conveyor maintenance
- 3.1 Conduct inspections and fault finding processes according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
- 3.2 Carry out routine operational servicing, lubrication and housekeeping tasks according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
- 3.3 Carry out minor maintenance according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
- 3.4 Provide operator support during preparation for, and conduct of, major maintenance tasks according to job requirements
- 3.5 Maintain written records according to site requirements
