Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to conduct allometric grading of shaped or 3D patterns for fashion garments where the focus is on taking into account differences in body growth for a specialised fit. Allometric grading must consider the relative growth rate of different parts of the body.The unit applies to patternmakers working in roles where discretion and judgement may be required in planning and selecting processes.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare to grade complex patterns
  • 1.1 Research target market for garment and collect data for measurement table
  • 1.2 Clarify design brief and confirm target market and intended purpose of design with designer
  • 1.3 Analyse measurement table against size range of target market to identify growth of circumference and length increments
  • 1.4 Create accurate grade rule table
  • 1.5 Identify base size, allocate grade points and construct grade rule table
2. Grade patterns
  • 2.1 Check pattern for accuracy and make required corrections
  • 2.2 Determine stacking or outlay requirements, including direction
  • 2.3 Accurately grade pattern based on created grade rule table
  • 2.4 Identify required stack points or lines
  • 2.5 Preserve integrity of pattern attributes during grading
  • 2.6 Accurately label all pattern pieces with pattern marking symbols
3. Finalise and store complex patterns
  • 3.1 Prepare shaped patterns or markers and present in required format in preparation for production
  • 3.2 Prepare accurate specification documents
  • 3.3 Complete documentation in accordance with workplace procedures
