This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop and implement, virtualisation technologies to provide a more efficient and reliable information and communications technology (ICT) environment.It applies to senior networking staff responsible for increasing the sustainability of an enterprise.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Analyse client needs
  • 1.1 Assess the client requirements
  • 1.2 Assess the existing client or server systems that may be suitable to be virtualised
2. Analyse the virtualisation host software
  • 2.1 Assess and compare suitable virtualisation host software, according to the enterprise requirements
  • 2.2 Document the recommendations and provide these to the appropriate person
3. Evaluate the system requirements
  • 3.1 Obtain and document the technical specifications, licensing and system requirements from the virtualisation software vendors
  • 3.2 Evaluate, and compare, the system requirements needed to implement virtualisation
  • 3.3 Document the recommendations and provide to the appropriate person
4. Plan and install the virtualisation host software
  • 4.1 Plan and prepare, for the host software installation
  • 4.2 Obtain and install the virtualisation host platform
  • 4.3 Test and validate the functionality of the virtualisation host platform, according to the enterprise requirements
