Description
This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to manage a deployed capability as a member of the Australian Defence Force (ADF).It includes deployment planning, supervising deployment activities and integrating operations with other co-located capabilities, supporting the leadership of the team, and communicating instructions.This unit applies to personnel employed in the ADF who exercise supervisory responsibility over a number of support teams while deployed on ADF activities.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.Persons undertaking this unit work autonomously, supervise teams, and perform complex tasks in a range of contexts that could be unpredictable.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Plan and supervise pre-deployment activities
- 1.1 Obtain deployment instructions and clarify as required, in accordance with organisational procedures
- 1.2 Seek further information and tasking from briefings
- 1.3 Review deployment instructions to plan tasking and activities to be coordinated by team leaders
- 1.4 Maintain lines of communication with team leaders to ensure teams are kept informed of the developments in the situation in accordance with operational procedures
- 1.5 Issue pre-deployment tasking to team leaders
- 1.6 Monitor team leader deployment preparation to ensure capability members are ready for deployment
- 1.7 Monitor preparation of stores and equipment to ensure they are operational and ready for deployment, in accordance with deployment plan
- 1.8 Consider and cater for specialist requirements during the preparation of stores and equipment
- 1.9 Monitor loading of stores and equipment for deployment in accordance with operational requirements
- 1.10 Confirm final deployment instructions and communicate to team leaders to ensure all capability members are informed and ready for deployment
2 Supervise deployment activities
- 2.1 Confirm deployment site and siting considerations with commander on arrival at deployment area
- 2.2 Issue detailed instructions to team leaders including ground brief, detailed tasks and timings
- 2.3 Monitor setting-up capability stores and equipment in accordance with operational procedures and requirements
- 2.4 Identify and rectify problems with deployment or refer to commander for resolution in accordance with deployment instructions
- 2.5 Establish lines of communication with co-located capabilities and other stakeholders to enable inter-operability
- 2.6 Contribute to setting-up of support facility’s amenities as directed by facility commander in accordance with operational requirements
3 Supervise the operation of a deployed capability
- 3.1 Monitor maintenance of operational posture to ensure the operation of the capability complements the provision of services and the operational environment
- 3.2 Compile and issue reports and returns to commander in accordance with organisational procedures
- 3.3 Monitor maintenance of stores and equipment
- 3.4 Supervise team leaders appropriate to changing priorities and situation, and differing needs and skills of individuals
4 Supervise re-deployment activities
- 4.1 Acknowledge and clarify re-deployment instructions in accordance with operational procedures
- 4.2 Plan tasking and activities to support re-deployment instructions
- 4.3 Issue re-deployment tasking to team leaders
- 4.4 Monitor refurbishment of stores and equipment to ensure capability is made ready for future deployments and to identify maintenance needs between deployments
- 4.5 Monitor loading of stores and equipment for re-deployment to ensure safe transportation and arrival in the new location
- 4.6 Assess deployment to identify lessons learned to improve future deployments and record findings in accordance with organisational policy
