Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to create storyboards for different digital content, including video, film, animation and interactive media.The unit applies to those who break down content, stories or scripts into discrete elements and visualise creative concepts in collaboration with a creative production team. Depending on the type and scale of production, storyboard artists, designers, producers and information architects may create storyboards. In some industry environments, they may work closely with directors, producers and in a team.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan storyboards
  • 1.1 Clarify storyboard requirements for production in consultation with required personnel
  • 1.2 Identify factors that affect the nature and type of storyboard to be created
  • 1.3 Contribute ideas in pre-production meetings and refine storyboard requirements
  • 1.4 Research and select storyboard tools that meet production requirements
  • 1.5 Obtain sign-off of on type of storyboard to be created from required personnel
2. Draft storyboards
  • 2.1 Break down content, scripts and stories into frames using storyboarding techniques, tools and methods according to production and safety requirements
  • 2.2 Specify storyboard elements for each frame and reflect creative concepts
  • 2.3 Specify linear or non-linear frame sequence and show connection between each frame according to production requirements
  • 2.4 Provide descriptions for each frame
  • 2.5 Discuss work in progress with required personnel, seeking feedback and assistance and adjust as required
  • 2.6 Confirm draft storyboards adhere to production requirements
3. Finalise storyboards
  • 3.1 Present draft storyboards and discuss feedback with required personnel
  • 3.2 Refine final storyboard as required
  • 3.3 Produce final storyboard according to production requirements
  • 3.4 Back-up copies of draft and final storyboards according to organisational procedures
  • 3.5 Submit final storyboard to required personnel by agreed deadlines
  • 3.6 Review process of creating storyboard and note areas for future improvement
